5.0 out of 5 stars Holy cow. What a bargain!, October 25, 2005

This review is from: M60 v3 Floorstanding Speaker - Boston Cherry (Electronics)
I've always been a firm believer in the bookshelf/subwoofer system for audio. In any tower speaker I'd ever heard, the upper-bass was always loose, and muddled. For that reason, I'd always bought and owned high quality bookshelf speakers, and mated them with a good subwoofer. (And that's still a terrific way to go)

Then I heard the M60ti's. Holy cow. Clarity throughout the audio range. Bass is very tight and clean. Midrange is clear - voices sound like they're right there in the room with you. And the highs? You'll hear things you've never heard before. You can hear the guitar pick in accoustic guitar. You'll hear Norah Jones' delicate inhale before singing. It's all there.

I love listing to speakers. I go out listening all the time, and I've yet to hear something that has made me want to trade my M60ti's in. They are very similar in sound/tone/detail as the MUCH more expensive B&W 703's. If you've heard those, and just couldn't afford their... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic speakers for price, May 18, 2010
This review is from: M60 v3 Floorstanding Speaker - Boston Cherry (Electronics)
After several weeks of researching online in an attempt to find the perfect speakers for my very own home theater, I decided to purchase a pair of these speakers from Axiom's factory outlet for $892 and I am glad I did. These speakers have exceeded my expectations and continue to do so the more I listen to them. I have heard things with these speakers that I have never heard before in any theater.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful M60, October 4, 2011
This review is from: M60 v3 Floorstanding Speaker - Boston Cherry (Electronics)
Have had these for a month and love them . These sound better
than other brands speakers that are double the price. In fact I gaurantee
that you well have to spend about 3 grand to find a speaker with
a audible improvement that you can hear .They have a incredible
sound stage and almost perfect tonal reproduction. The only flaw they have
is that they make a bad production sound worse ...but then thats not there
Fault .

5.0 out of 5 stars Crystal Clear Highs........, January 24, 2005
By
Let me start by saying that I was looking for a pair of speakers to replace my Bose 701's. I love my Bose, but I felt that they were lacking in clarity on the higher end of the sound spectrum. So I decided to make them the front speakers of my home theater system, where the lack of high end sound clarity isn't as noticeable as when you are just sitting down listening to your favorite CD's. After much research I went to my local electronics store with a particular speaker in mind. I had decided on the Infinity Primus250. I was pleased with the highs that the Infinity's delivered, but before leaving I decided to listen to the Polk Monitor 50's because they were in the same price range and I know that Polk makes a quality product. After alternating listening to both speakers with a variety of music styles I was torn. Both speakers would have been a welcome addition to any home system, but the Polk speakers seemed to offer just a little more clarity on the higher end. The vocals and... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price, July 3, 2008
This review is from: Polk Audio Monitor 50 AM5025-A 2-Way Floorstanding Speaker (Single, Black) (Electronics)
I paid $99 each for these speakers shipped. For this price, they are really great. I have them bi-wired with some overpriced monster cable speaker wire I had to buy at the local AV chain store because that's all they sell now. I did most of my listening through a panasonic blu-ray disc player, outputting the sound via an optical cable to my Onkyo old school 5.1 DTS receiver for the decoding. I've watched about a dozen movies and listened to many albums. I also do some listening with the old ipod.

These speakers will satisfy all but the most discerning ears. The treble is clear and I think it is just right. Some speakers have a brighter treble that some listeners really desire (klipsch speakers for example), these are more neutral sounding which I feel is more natural. The treble is in no way muted or muffled, it's just right. They are ported, which means certain bass frequencies will be accentuated and there will be a slight loss of detail as compared to most completely... Read more

These speakers produce a beautiful sound for a very beautiful price. I just bought a pair of Monitor 50's to go with my sound system and home theater. The high end is crisp and clear, and the bass is clean, with no "booming" distortion. I compared these speakers to comparable floor-standing, 2-way Sonys, and the Polks outdo the competition with clarity and immaculate sound. The price at ABC Warehouse beats the cost quoted on Amazon, as I paid $175 for each one. Don't waste your time looking around. If this is your price point, these are your speakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bang (and crash and boom) for your bucks, May 5, 2009
By
The JBL L880 floorstanding towers are EXTRAORDINARY value for money compared with other manufacturer's and internet only dealers products. Many will claim to have very neutral response and dynamic potential, but JBL has been in the business of making speakers since before many of those companies were glimmers in the eyes of their founders.

You can find excellent measurements of the L880's response curves online (Stereophile has an excellent review with such measurements) and the measurements don't lie. Flat response on axis from 40KHz down to about 30 Hz (with some leeway for room reinforcement). What that means in terms of listening is that everything sounds exactly as the mixer, engineers, and musicians (or movie makers if that's your bag) intended it to; nothing is being unduly influenced by characteristics of the speakers themselves, hence the description as neutral.

I've been using these paired with an Onkyo TX-SR606, a JBL LC2 center, and some surrounds... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprise, surprise!, March 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: JBL L880 4-Way, High Performance 6-inch Dual Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Black) (Electronics)
Well folks, I am utterly in disbelief. JBL in my apartment. Shocking!
I've always considered myself a fringe audiophile. I say fringe because I've yet to drink the kool-aid. Partly because I can't afford it. But I read all the audio magazines Stereophile etc., and have been doing so since my teen years. And over these years audio has become my favorite hobby/pass time. I've lusted (amongst other things)over Thiels, Vandersteens,Thorens, Krells, ARC,C-J etc.
I had been doing research for the pass 6 months on a new pair of speakers to replace my 1-year old Polks. The TSi300's were a stop gap as I gradually build up my dedicated 2-channel setup. I, like everyone else, had gone bonkers with the HT bug.
The speakers I was looking at were the Revel Concerta F12, Monitor Audio Silver RX6 and of course PSB. On my way to Oz my yellow brick road became tarnished with dishonest (overly enthusiastic?)salesmen sprouting overly fertilized hyperbole. Fancy-smancy salesrooms and... Read more

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: JBL L880 4-Way, High Performance 6-inch Dual Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Black) (Electronics)
Shipping was fast, though amazon did complicate matters by shipping them on separate days, requiring two separate deliveries, not just one. Had them out of the box in about 10 minutes each, so unboxing was relatively easy, especially given that I was doing it alone without any help. Currently have them single-wired to a Harmon Kardon HK 3490 stereo receiver, so I am using these in a 2.0 system (no subwoofer) primarily for music and the occasional blu-ray movie. Completely pleased with their performance so far (two weeks). Bass is clean and tight, and even without a sub, these speakers provide wall-rattling bass if I want it. Midrange and highs are clear and distinct as well. The soundstage is remarkably three-dimensional, not just horizontally but vertically as well, and roomy. I listen to all kinds of music from jazz to rock to rap, and I'm finding that the speakers perform exceptionally well no matter the genre, though I have to say that they are the most outstanding and...
