I did a side-by-side comparison with my Reference series Klipsch RF-82s and these had so much more clarity and detail, espescially when listening to accoustic strings. The one thing they lack is really deep bass, so pairing with a sub is a must. Also, these speakers are simply gorgeous in cabernet or espresso and it's a real shame that Klipsch discontinued them as I see them to be a real gem for mulit-purpose use in a living room set-up. If you can find some available, snatch them up! These speakers sound very good but they do need about 200 hours of playing to do great. At first I noticed that it was too bright when playing certain type of music very loud, but after about 2 months of heavy use they now sound PERFECT. I don't know why speakers need "burning" but after that I swear to you that you won't be dissapointed by these speakers.I have them with the Onkyo TX-NR808 with 2 WB-14 as surrounds a wc-24 a 500d klipsch subwoofer and its much more than I needed. I like hearing my music loud and I've never played them close to their maximum power cause they are very loud. The bass sounds very musical, crips and loud. In my opinion, you can do without a subwoofer if you are using them mainly for music. Besides, this things look beautiful and have a lot of WOW factor. I live in an appt. and had to pull my subwoofer and dial the bass down a bit when I bought these speakers. The highs are crystal clear. They definitely brought new life to the music. The speakers themselves are quite pleasing to look at, and add to the look of a living room. Really pleased overall. I grabbed the WC-24 center and WB-14 bookshelves for surround. If you have a large space, and are willing to shell out the cash, I would grab the WS-24 surrounds. |
